Description
Metal Plus Swivel Bar for Standing Seam Roof Anchors
The Metal Plus Swivel Bar is an engineered anchorage connector designed to join two identical Snap-On Safety Anchors (SOS) across adjacent standing seam roof panels. It creates a horizontal anchorage configuration intended to distribute load between paired anchors, subject to the structural limitations of the roof system.
The Swivel Bar is not a standalone anchor and must be used only with compatible Metal Plus SOS anchors
Engineered Load Distribution for Snap-Lock Systems
Many standing seam anchorage systems claim broad compatibility across panel types. The Swivel Bar was developed to provide a controlled, manufacturer-approved method of connecting two identical SOS anchors.
When properly configured:
- The Swivel Bar distributes load between two anchors
- All fall protection connectors must attach only to the central 360° anchorage eye
- The D-rings on individual anchors must not be used while the Swivel Bar is installed
Use with mismatched anchor models, modified anchors, or non-Metal Plus components is prohibited
Adjustable Width for Multiple Panel Configurations
The Swivel Bar adjusts continuously from:
- 21½ inches down to 8 inches
- No tools needed for adjustment, simply swivel into place
This allows compatibility across a range of standing seam panel widths within those limits.
OSHA Compliance & System Requirements
When installed in accordance with Metal Plus instructions and when the anchorage and supporting structure are evaluated and approved by a Qualified Person, the Swivel Bar’s 360° anchorage eye is intended for use as part of a fall arrest system designed to comply with:
- OSHA 1910.140
- OSHA 1926.502(d)(1)
All inspection, training, fall-clearance, and rescue planning requirements applicable to the SOS Anchor apply equally to the Swivel Bar system
Installation Requirements
Proper installation is critical for compliance and safe operation.
Key Installation Details
- Must be fully assembled with anchors prior to roof installation
- Swivel Bar fasteners torque to 20 ft-lbs
- Anchor fasteners must be torqued per SOS Anchor installation manual
- Use only two perimeter mounting holes on each anchor when Swivel Bar is installed
Full installation procedures are detailed in the official Swivel Bar Installation Manual
Swing-Fall & Clearance Considerations
The Swivel Bar creates a horizontal anchorage configuration that may increase swing-fall exposure and fall-clearance requirements compared to a single anchor system.
Prior to use, a Competent Person must evaluate:
- Roof geometry
- Edge distances
- Swing-fall path
- Total fall clearance
Inspection & Maintenance
- Inspect prior to each use
- Formal inspection every three (3) months by a Competent Person
- Remove from service if damaged or if factory pivot fasteners loosen beyond specified tolerance
